On Monday February 28th, the ten new teams accepted into EdTech Incubator Helsinki began their journey in the 18 -week program. The spring 2022 batch consists of an intriguing variety of different EdTech solutions, with eight of the companies already situated in Helsinki and two international teams aiming towards establishing their business in the innovation capital of Finland.

“I see this as a very promising group of EdTech teams and I’m excited to get to work with providing these startups the support and tools to grow and become first-class businesses on an international level.”, Lead Advisor Mia-Stiina Heikkala from Helsinki Education Hub evaluates.

The main themes standing out from the new batch are social and emotional learning and improvement of vocational skills. The entrepreneurs come from different backgrounds but are highly motivated to shape a better world through education and technology.

“Six of the teams in the new batch have female founders, which both Helsinki Education Hub and the City of Helsinki regard as a very important trend and we are delighted to be able to see EdTech as a frontrunner industry. “, Heikkala continues.

The participants of the Incubator program started their Bootcamp Week with a brief introduction and some grouping activities, followed by SWOT- and Enablers & Blockers- workshops on the second day. During the introductory days, the teams also had the chance to attend the Early-stage EdTech Funding event and immediately meet important investors.

“This has been an intensive start to the program and it’s super motivating to feel like we are getting straight to business. It’s interesting to see what the other teams are doing, and the lessons and workshops are tailored for the different needs, which I see as very beneficial.”, says Ida Nevalainen, CEO and founder of Elämän Akatemia.

For a relaxed completion of the first week, the startups will get to meet with the first batch of the Incubator program in the form of Pizza Friday at Helsinki Education Hub.

“All the people here have been truly awesome. The facilities are top-notch, and the personnel provide a good drive and feeling that catches on. The first week has been a great set up for the rest of the program.”, Nevalainen says.
